Special NeedsIn some ways all children have special needs: every child is different and no two children learn at exactly the same rate or understand things in the same way. The main aims for Special Needs teaching is twofold. Firstly, to help those children with learning difficulties. This is achieved by individual or group tuition and may mean the child receiving a slightly different learning programme from others in the class. The second focus is children who are underachieving; often these are more able children who are not doing as well as they should. If the teacher feels that your child is experiencing learning difficulties or is underachieving you will always be consulted before a change is made to his or her normal learning routine or the involvement of outside agencies is considered. More able children are also identified as having Special Needs. A wide range of strategies will be adopted to meet these needs within existing school structures. Where appropriate, access to courses for more able and talented pupils at external agencies will be offered. |
