PAUL SACKEY
We follow with much interest the progress of past pupil and England Rugby player Paul Sackey who was a pupil at St James the Great from January 1985 to July 1991 when he transfered to The John Fisher School for his secondary education.
'Taking Flight'
Congratulations to past pupil Tom Conroy whose design was selected for a new window in our parish church of St Andrew's Thornton Heath . This was blessed at Sunday Mass by Bishop Paul Hendricks attended by Tom and his family. Dr Who Thanks to past pupil Jean-Claude Deguara an animator for television's Dr Who and Tourchwood series for giving an exciting presentation on his work to our Year 5 & 6 pupils Healthy Schools Award
Environment Award Following promotion of the benefits of a new set of three R's, namely, Reducing, Reusing and Recycling waste, St James the Great has had its "green credentials" recognised. More .... The school was also recognised for its environmental work at the 'Smarter Croydon Awards'.
Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Brenda Kirby who visited St James the Great School to formally commission the schools solar panels presented two School Council members with our Smarter Croydon Award Certificate at the awards ceremony held in the Arnhem Gallery at Fairfield Halls. Music for Life Pupils from St James the Great were asked to play at a concert in front of Government Ministers David Miliband and Estelle Morris. More ........ St Andrew's Church Centenary Flower Festival Our school was invited to participate in the Centenary Flower Festival held at St Andrew's Church Thornton Heath. The festival was a great success attracting many visitors and our arrangement pictured below was well received. Thanks to Claire Mowbray a past pupil and owner of florists Wilsons of Claygate and her friend Linda for organising our arrangement. Hell NAACE Award St James the Great RC Primary School is one of the first schools in Croydon to have received national recognition for its teaching of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) described in our recent Ofsted inspection report as “excellent and a strength of the school”. More ...... Schools interested in seeking NAACE recognition are invited to contact Terry Cefai our ICT co-oordinator who is a qualified NAACE assessor for either guidance or assessment.
