St James the Great RC Primary School is one of the first schools in Croydon
to have received national recognition for its teaching of ICT (Information
and Communication Technology) described in our recent Ofsted inspection
report as “excellent and a strength of the school”.
On
Wednesday 7th January Stephen Beck, and ICT Co-ordinator, Terry Cefai,
were presented with the NAACEmark award in London at the BETT exhibition
at Earls Court by Tim Scratcherd Chair of the Naace Board of Management
Stephen
Beck commented that obtaining this accreditation was indeed the icing
on the cake. We were confident ICT was going well and being well taught.
The demands of the accreditation process, whilst heavy, gave us the
impetus to re-examine and record the progress we had made to date and
to take stock of the future direction of this subject in our school
to enable us to keep at the forefront of ICT developments as appropriate
for a Primary School. The visit by the external assessor, whilst daunting,
served to provide an outside view and validation of our work. The achievement
is a credit to Terry and all the staff and pupils of St James the Great
for their commitment to constantly strive to do even better. The use
of our facilities by parents and members of the wider community also
reflects the community nature of our school. It will be interesting
to see where we have reached when accreditation renewal falls due in
three years’ time.
