THE STAFFThe Governors wish to extend their thanks to all staff at St James the Great for their hard work in making 1999/2000 another successful year. The school has the benefit of both experienced and newly appointed staff. Whilst staff turnover is minimal, this year sees the departure of our Assistant Head Teacher, Margaret McSorley, following nineteen years service to the school and Ann Opoku, following four years service. The school was fortunate to appoint both Victoria Berry and Tamsyn Lawlor to the staff, both of whom have previously taught in the school, for the 2000/2001 academic year. In addition, following approval by the Governors of a request from Rose Hannon to reduce her teaching commitment, Helen Alley was appointed to the staff on a 0.4 contract for the same period. She likewise has also previously worked in the school. In the light of the restructuring of teaching posts by the School Teachers Pay and Review Body, the Governors are not seeking to make an immediate appointment to the post of Assistant Head Teacher. For the forthcoming academic year, Mrs Mascarenhas as Key Stage One Co-ordinator and Mrs Vassallo as Key Stage Two Co-ordinator will, as part of a review of their posts, undertake responsibilities previously assumed by Margaret McSorley The Governors are also seeking to appoint an additional Key Stage One teacher for the next academic year following the provision of additional funding under the Governments class size reduction initiative. We have also been able to appoint on a fixed term contract an additional Key Stage Two Learning Support Assistant through funding provided under the Governments Key Stage Two Booster Class initiative. The staff has undertaken a wide range of training courses. In-service training days have been used to prepare and develop the introduction of the Numeracy Strategy. All staff continue to develop professionally through participation in a variety of courses many of which are undertaken in their own time. The following list of staff is for the academic year 2000/2001. Mr Stephen Beck MSc BA Cert Ed Headteacher
In addition to the above staff, the school employs 12 school meal supervisory assistants.
