LITERACY AND NUMERACY Children are grouped according to ability within each class. These groupings are flexible and will be reviewed on a regular basis. LANGUAGE Reading schemes are used only in school. These include GINN 360 and Sunshine. Books taken home in book bags are the pupil's own choice from graded boxes. Sometimes this will be directed by the teacher. Please support us by encouraging your child to read every evening. Spellings are given on Thursday and tested on the following Thursday. It is very important that the children learn the spellings and bring the yellow spelling book to school on Thursday. Book bags should be brought to school every day to change books and for letters to come home. Please check book bags every day. Book Club is on Thursday afternoon for Year 2. SCIENCE (See attached Sheet.) TOPIC CYCLE Sound (Technology) Houses and Homes (History) Westerham/Thornton Heath (Geography) ICT The children are timetabled for one hour per week to develop skills. PROPOSED EDUCATIONAL VISITS
You will be notified of the cost and dates of these trips as soon as possible. SATs The children will be tested in Mathematics and English during the month of May. We would like to remind you that we do not tell the children that they are being tested. We feel that they perform better when not under pressure. Results of these tests will be available at Open Evenings in July. We would appreciate if children were not withdrawn from school for family holidays from Monday 30th April to Friday 25th May inclusive. GENERAL ITEMS Discipline: We operate a tick system throughout the school to address inappropriate behaviour. Class Rules: These are decided upon by the children and displayed in the classroom. Reward System: Teachers reward children with team points, stamps and smiling faces for a variety of reasons e.g. good behaviour, kindness, hard work and effort. Communication: If you would like to speak to either Mrs Day or Mrs Mascarenhas throughout the year please feel free to make an appointment. We would also ask you to check regularly whether your child has brought home any communication from school e.g. Newsletter. Punctuality: It is essential that children arrive promptly at 9.15 am in view of the whole class teaching of the literacy and numeracy hour. We would be grateful for your co-operation at home time by not waiting outside the classroom until the bell rings at 3.30 pm. It can be very distracting for the children, especially when the windows are open. Please do not leave children in school unattended before 9 o'clock as no supervision is available. Children who attend clubs will be advised as to what time they start.
Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform i.e. shorts, t-shirt/polo shirt. Kit must be in school Monday to Friday. Jewellery may not be worn with the exception of stud earrings for girls. Homework: Details of the range of homework tasks are detailed in the school homework policy. We would appreciate your support in ensuring that all set tasks are completed each week. Uniform: Please ensure that your child wears the correct school uniform at all times. All items must be clearly named. |
