Nursery Policy

We appreciate the benefit to be gained for both children and the school from having a Nursery Class. There is a clear structure laid down within our Nursery policies that provide for the following progression over the year:

Autumn Term: This is the entry term and is given over to settling the children into Nursery routines and early assessment of the children.

Spring Term This is very much a consolidation period that builds on the experiences children bring to the Nursery and concentrates on the development of independence.

Summer Term The structure of this term focuses on preparing the children for transfer to a Reception class. It will involve developing a greater awareness in the children as to the more formally structured day that is soon to become part of their daily experience. Children will be expected to undertake tasks at a given time. These tasks will include work on the school's handwriting script and basic number work. They will undertake oral and recorded work encompassing other National Curriculum areas which the children are ready to experience.
