Notes on Handwriting

It is important in the early years that children have as much practice in manipulative skills as possible. This can be gained through the use of :

paint brushes, chalk, pencils, pastels, scissors, felt pens etc.

It is important to have practice in tracing, cutting, threading, drawing, colouring, painting, puzzles and drawing round templates.

These will help a child to achieve writing readiness which needs good hand and eye co-ordination.

Children need to have the ability to perceive and copy. Perception, co-ordination and motivation can all be stimulated through play and pattern.

You can download a sheet of the script used in Nursery and School for your information.
